ISAF WORLD YOUTH SAILING CHAMPIONSHIPS DAY FOUR
After day four of the ISAF World Youth Sailing Championships in Poland Kiwi Laser Radial Sailor, Jo Aleh is in fourth position and in striking distance of a medal.
The extreme high range conditions that prevailed over the first three days of racing gave way to lighter westerly winds that ranged between 8-15 knots. The New Zealand sailors had a strong day overall bringing in some good race results.
Laser Radial sailor Jo Aleh is competing at the regatta for the second time and is demonstrating her strong sailing ability and determination by improving her standing from 5th overall up to 4th. Yachting New Zealand's National Programmes Coordinator, Julie Worth observes, "Jo had a much better day. She's only 5 points off a bronze medal with three races remaining."
Blair McLay, sailing in the Boy's single-handed class, also improved his standing overnight moving up the leader board from 11th to 9th spot.
Both 420 crews improved their overall results after the fourth day of racing in Poland. Olivia Powrie skipper of the Girl's 420 says, "We came off the line a lot better, which meant we were able to make better decisions throughout the race." They are currently in 15th postion, while the Boy's 420 crew of Alastair Thompson and Scott Illingworth jumped three spots up to 15th in a fleet of 26.
Michael Thorpe and Rosie Sargisson started sailing the Hobie-16 at the beginning of this year, and given that it is only the second time the class has been sailed at the ISAF World Youth Sailing Championships the fleet is relatively small with 11 teams competing. The kiwis had a strong fourth day and improved their overall standing from 9th up to 7th.
