Auckland City raises profile of local arts
Auckland City today confirmed annual grants to two of the city’s flagship performing arts organisations as part of its commitment to supporting a vibrant arts scene in Auckland.
New Zealand Opera will receive $75,000 and Auckland Theatre Company $85,000 towards their 2004/2005 seasons. The grants are part of three year funding agreements Auckland City has with both organisations that includes the provision of two free community events each year.
Councillor Scott Milne, Chairperson of the Recreation and Events Committee, says that Auckland City is keen to raise the profile of art in the city.
“These mature, highly professional organisations are key to our support for the arts and cultural scene in Auckland”, says Mr Milne.
