Goldenhorse live with the Auckland Philharmonia
“Precise, tasteful, durable, real top shelf stuff. This quintet bang out tunes that are ambitious yet inviting, richly
textured with a certain bucolic ease – 8/10.” [Montreal Mirror]
The first concert in the Auckland Philharmonia’s 2004 Telecom Pops series features a unique fusion – New Zealand band
Goldenhorse takes the stage with the Auckland Philharmonia.
With sales of their début album Riverhead reaching double platinum, and numerous awards garnered for their singles,
Goldenhorse is the band to watch on the New Zealand music scene. Apart from the fine overall instrumentation, it is the
exquisite vocals of lead singer Kirsten Morelle that make Goldenhorse so classy. The five-piece’s soundscapes wind
through swing, funk, calypso, waltz, ska and all out rock. Appealing to a wide audience, their infectious, sometimes
dark, epic love songs and cornerstone pop songs present listeners with timeless rewards.
Add the Auckland Philharmonia to the mix and this will be a concert to remember.
New works have been arranged specially for this concert by Goldenhorse’s Geoff Maddock and Kirsten Morelle. Horns will
help to stomp out Baby’s Been Bad, a harp and piano will bring up their latest single, Northern Lights. Well known
favourites from Goldenhorse’s album Riverhead, such as Maybe Tomorrow and Golden Dawn will have their existing
arrangements exploded to meet the extra instrumentation. And expect the songs Riverhead, Spice Islands and Dark Forest
to unleash the full force of the accompanying symphony orchestra.
