Finalists announced: New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year 2004
Sixteen top hair stylists have been selected to compete live in the finals of the L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy
Awards 2004, on July 17th, where the very best will be named New Zealand hairdresser of the Year.
These finalists were selected from over 300 photographic portfolios submitted by hairdressers from around the country.

(This category is open to any hairdresser currently residing in New Zealand.)

The final judging will be live on July 17. The finalists will recreate the hair cut and colour in their photographic
portfolios, using their original models and completing the task in just three hours.
The judges are looking for the elite of New Zealand hairdressers. The sixteen finalists demonstrate world-class
hairdressing with flair, style and a commercial edge in the use of colour, cut and overall styling. The focus is on the
hair, but judges also take into account the interplay with fashion.
The other categories are assessed solely from the photographic portfolios and are not recreated for final judging. All
entries are considered for the Images Magazine award and the Photographer’s Award is judged separately and announced on
the night.
The Salon Team Award, for teams of up to six people, recognises that in many salons now a colourist, a stylist and a
senior consultant will often pool their talents to create a client’s look.

For the first time in the history of this event will have an entirely international judging panel. The judges are:
Jo Hansford: Hairstylist to the stars. Liz Hurly, Raquel Welch, our very own Rachel Hunter, Melanie Griffiths, and Minnie Driver –
to name but a few of those who have trusted their image with the woman referred to as the leading female hairdresser in
Britain today.
Paul Divitaris: The man behind the innovative Biba salons and the Biba Academy Melbourne. He has worked with Vidal Sassoon and Alan
International in London.
Anne-Marie Garreffa: Artistic director of respected South Australian salon Hair Machine, and winner of the Australian Colour Trophy in 1998
and 2001. This will be her second time judging Colour Trophy in New Zealand.
Hair and fashion are an inseparable and unbeatable team and two of the country’s top fashion designers, Karen Walker and Trelise Cooper , will reveal for the first time in New Zealand, their spring/summer collections at the event:
This will all set the scene for a fabulous wrap party at the Sky City Convention Centre, featuring the smooth late
night sounds of One Million Dollars, a 10 piece soul-jazz band with a reputation for energetic live performances and
followed by DJ Dunc the Funk.
