The Audio Foundation Is Launched
An new online database, networking and resource hub for experimental electronic audio culture in NZ http://www.audiofoundation.org.nz
The Audio Foundation is a non profit organisation for the support of innovative practices that are primarily concerned with the use of sound.
The aim of the foundation is to provide an online hub to help refine, explore and extend both the scope and meaning of this significant art form and to facilitate and represent the audio community.
The ephemeral nature of audio artwork does not yet fit well into the current structures that support the presentation and discussion of either the arts or music.
While the influence of audio work can be found in everything from moving image to installation to the media arts, the discipline itself requires the kind of attention its influence warrants.
The foundation seeks to address the gray area between the mainstream music industry and visual arts community.
With a discourse and networking infrastructure of its own, there is a historical reference for the community, a cultural context and finally a way for awareness and interest to increase and therefore for audience to develop.
The hub is a facility changing and growing according to the needs of the NZ community/ies and any suggestions, critique or feedback is warmly welcomed.
