View the America's Cup Trophy in Newport!
June 19-26, Newport, Rhode Island
Lausanne, Switzerland, June 4, 2004 - Team Alinghi, winners of the America's Cup 2003, is proud to announce that the America's Cup, the oldest trophy in sporting history, will be on public display in Newport between June 19-26. Won by Alinghi in March 2003 following their victory against Team New Zealand, the Americas Cup is held by Alinghi's yacht club: Société Nautique de Genève. The yacht club will be represented in Newport by its vice-Commodore Fred Meyer.
Team Alinghi encourages the public to view the trophy at Fort Adams, where it will be on display daily between 11am - 4pm. Each day after the racing, the Cup will be transported to the Newport Shipyard, where she will also be on display between 4:30 - 7pm.
Team Alinghi will be in Newport to compete against BMW ORACLE Racing in the UBS Trophy. Spectators will be able to enjoy close up viewing of the race starts and finishes from Fort Adams, as well as enjoy the daily off water festivities. Parking will be plentiful and a water taxi will ferry people to and from downtown Newport.
