Olympic Nominations Announced
Olympic Yachting Nominations Announced Yachting New Zealand's nomination panel of Grant Beck, Glen Sowry and Terry Nicholas have made their decision this morning on which sailors will be nominated to the New Zealand Olympic Committee.
The panel have concluded that the following sailors have met the Nomination Criteria and will be forwarded by Yachting New Zealand to the NZ Olympic Committee, who have the final say in selecting the team for Athens 2004.
Finn - Dean Barker
Yngling - Sharon Ferris, Joanna White & Kylie Jameson
470 Women - Shelley Hesson & Linda Dickson
The Nomination Panel are confident the selection process and policy has delivered a strong team for Athens.
"We have been fortunate to have a great team of selectors that have spent considerable time working through the detail of each decision. I've had many past Olympians comment on the strength of the nominees. We are confident that when the Games begin Yachting New Zealand will have done all we can to give our sailors the best chance to pin Hyeres Olympic week in France in April, and 15th in the 470 ISAF Qualification Regatta held in Croatia in May.
Six New Zealand sailors in five classes have already been nominated to the NZOC and have since had their position in the Olympic team confirmed. These include:
Barbara Kendall - Mistral Women
Thomas Ashley - Mistral Men
Sarah Macky - Europe
Andrew Brown & Jamie Hunt - 470 Men
Hamish Pepper - Laser
