Kiwis Get Underway in ISAF Grade One Olympic Class Regatta.
Racing is underway in Medemblik, the Netherlands in what is the 20th anniversary of the annual SPA Regatta. New Zealand’s representatives have shown strong performances in the initial day of racing, considering both wind strength and direction were unstable.
Sarah Macky is sailing in the Europe class and will be hoping for a strong performance in the lead up to Athens. She lies in 3rd position in a field of 63 at the end of day one. In the Finn class Dean Barker sits in 9th spot in another strong field of 63.
The women’s 470s class has quite a light field of just 10 teams. Melinda Henshaw and Jann Schearer sailed well on their first day of racing and lie in 2nd position on the leader board.
James Wells, who won the NZ ranking series in the Mistrals is also competing in the regatta. He is currently in 13th position out of 38
in the men's Mistral class.
Sharon Ferris and her team of Joanna White and Kylie Jameson are competing in the Yngling class.
