Aussies Ask Kiwis For Their Best Shot
From weird and wonderful discoveries to unforgettable experiences, the Australian Tourist Commission is again calling on
budding Kiwi photographers to enter their favourite Aussie holiday snaps in a nationwide photo challenge.
Due to the popularity of the 'Discover Australia' photo challenge that ran in New Zealand last year, the competition is
back with more great prizes up for grabs in return for photos that capture unique or memorable holiday experiences in
Australia.
Any New Zealander aged 18 and over who has visited Australia, or is travelling there before 31 July 2004, is eligible to
enter.
Eight regional winners from across New Zealand will be selected in August 2004 by a panel of judges including TV3 travel
show presenters Petra Bagust and Dean Cornish, Qantas NZ and South Pacific Marketing Manager David Libeau, and renowned
travel photographer Kevin Emirali.
From those eight winners, who will each receive a Canon digital video camera, an overall national winner will be awarded
the grand prize -- a holiday for two anywhere of their choice in Australia to the value of NZ$8,000.
Winner of the 2003 challenge, Peter Wise from Nelson, enjoyed a custom--made holiday across the Tasman thanks to his
stunning image of Hamersley Gorge in Western Australia.
"I had a fabulous trip to South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory -- both states are rich in culture and
diverse landscapes," says Mr Wise. "It was fun to plan the holiday and great to experience more of Australia."
The Australian Tourist Commission's Partnership Development Manager Karen Priest says the competition aims to reinforce
the endless experiences on offer in Australia, many of which are unknown to Kiwis who may consider the destination
familiar.
"We've initiated this challenge as part of an ongoing campaign that encourages New Zealanders to think differently about
Australia, and creates a desire for them to discover new parts of the country that they haven't seen before, when they
next visit," she adds.
To enter this challenge people must simply send their photo, along with a short description, to Discover Australia Photo
Competition, PO Box 37--116, Parnell, Auckland before 31 July 2004.
Photos may be black--and--white or colour, and may be any size, but they must be on photographic paper.
Entry forms are available from travel agencies nationwide. Alternatively, visit www.australia.com to download an entry
form and find out more about the competition.
