North Island Monopoly Championship Ready To Roll
Get out of jail free cards will be in hot demand this weekend with the North Island Monopoly Championship due to take
place on Sunday 2 May, at the Old Railway Station in central Auckland.
Thirty-two lucky contestants will play two 90-minute rounds each, on a table of four players. The two winners chosen
will be the contestants with the highest number of total assets at the end of the two rounds. The North Island Champion
and first runner-up will then go on to compete against the South Island Champion and runner-up for the title of New
Zealand Monopoly Champion in July.
The New Zealand Monopoly Champion will win a trip to Tokyo to represent New Zealand at the World Championships in
October this year.
Teresa Mitrovic, marketing manager for Hasbro New Zealand Limited, who manufacture and distribute Monopoly, says that
the event is sure to be exciting with the competitors coming from a wide range of backgrounds and ages. “People are
travelling from as far as Gisborne and Wellington to compete, so its clear that people love Monopoly and are definitely
committed to the game! We’d also like to encourage the public to come down and support the players as they battle it out
for the title.”
The South Island Championships will be held in Christchurch on 16 May. Entries for this tournament are still open. Those
wanting to enter the draw for a chance to play in Christchurch should register at www.monpolychamps.co.nz by Friday 7
May.
