A Rhythmic Showcase Of Fancy Footwork, Visual Splendour, And Amplified Beat.
The latest work from choreographer Megan Adams is more than just another dance piece. It is a nostalgic salute to New
Zealand suburbia. Ornate gates, glamour and procession are central to this dance showcase. Layers of movement, music,
moveable sets and video vistas come together in a pattern parade.
Megan Adams graduated from the New Zealand School of Dance in 1995 and now works as a freelance dancer, choreographer
and tutor in Auckland and Wellington. She was last seen dancing in Sean Curham's Greenland and Ann Dewey's Queen Camel
in 2003. Earlier this year Adams was Rehearsal Director for Shona McCullough's short dance film Break. Adams' last
choreographic work was Little Red Dance, a collaboration with filmmaker Paul Redican. This work was commissioned by
Christchurch's Physics Room for the 2001 exhibition Bomb's Away. This also toured to the Adam Art Gallery in 2002.
Adams has gathered a talented team of collaborators for Rose Parade. The score is by Toby Laing, a member of Black
Seeds, Fat Freddy's Drop and Scribes of Ra. Costumes are by Adrian Hailwood, local fashion star with an international
reputation. Actor Jeremy Randerson (The Young Baron, Carry On Randerson, short films Delores, John & Pogo) has designed Rose Parade's intricate set design. Auckland animator and director James Hutchinson has created the
show's visuals. Hutchinson has produced work for Interdigitate, Black Grace, Soliton and Plush Bomb, along with music
videos for Pitch Black, Rotor and Fat Freddy's Drop. Lighting is by Juliette Howard, whose unique design has been seen
in numerous productions in Auckland and Wellington.
Rose Parade features dancers Natasha Alpe, Solomon Holly-Massey, Jenny Nicholas, Julie Van Renen and Liana Yew
Rose Parade opens on Wednesday April 28 at TAPAC - The Auckland Performing Arts Centre, Motions Road, Western Springs.
