Possum Auction Attracts Avalanche Of Items
Organisers of the Possum Bourne Charity Auction and Dinner have been inundated with a wide variety of items from the motorsport world and beyond.
The function to be held on Monday 12 April has been donated items by the Ford, Peugeot, Citroen and Subaru World Rally Teams, including overalls, gloves, and bonnet plates, many of them signed by rallying's superstars, Petter Solberg, Marko Martin, Carlos Sainz and Tommi Makinen.
The Australian V8 Supercar circus has also come to the party with items from Greg Murphy, Marcos Ambrose and Russell Ingall. The Stone Brothers team who started their careers in the Tuakau - Onewhero area have put up some hot laps at the Pukekohe Supercar race meeting.
There is a considerable amount of Possum memorabilia as well, including overalls, helmet and the bumper from his 1999 Rally of NZ Impreza WRC car which led the event on the first day.
Two trips are up for auction. One to the Rally of Australia and the other to the Surfers Paradise Indy Car Grand Prix.
Other sports have also chimed in with signed gear from the 2003 Warriors, the All Blacks, the Auckland rugby team, the Black Caps and the World Champion Silver Ferns and Black Socks.
And the international sports community has also come forward with items from Tiger Woods, Mario Andretti and Ralph Schumacher.
The organisers have received so many contributions that an "on-line" auction is also being held.
"The response when we started asking for items for the auction was phenomenal," said Andrew Miller, the auction organiser. "We received so many items that an "on line" auction was the only way to make the most of all the contributions."
There are numerous "used" parts from Petter Solberg's cars from this year's Rally of Monte Carlo and Sweden and signed Playstation WRC games.
More Australian Supercar V8 stuff, including signed posters, cars parts and overalls and numerous motorsport books are also available.
The "on-line" auction is at http://www.turnersonline.co.nz
All proceeds from the dinner and auction will go to the Possum Bourne Family Education Trust.
