Chris Timms:-
Yachting New Zealand is shocked to hear of the tragic death of one of New Zealand’s past Olympic medallists, Chris Timms.
Chris, together with skippper Rex Sellers won the gold medal, competing in the Tornado class at the 1984 Olympic Games, in Los Angeles. They staged another campaign for the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, where they secured the silver medal in the same class.
Yachting New Zealand’s High Performance Manager, Peter Lester comments, “Not only was Chris an outstanding sailor but he was also one of the most down to earth Olympians New Zealand has seen".
Chris will be sadly missed by the greater yachting community, of which he played an intregal part, not only as an outstanding sailor, but also as a talented member of the marine industry.
Our thoughts are with his wife Susanne, and family at this time.
