Another Vietnam: Pictures of the War From the Other Side
Vietnam: A Kiwi Snapshot

A collection of startling, never-before-published images of the Vietnam War by North Vietnamese photographers are on
display from 5 March 2004. They are be accompanied by an exhibition profiling New Zealanders' memories of power
politics, protest and the sacrifice made by our own soldiers in this unpopular war, called 'Vietnam: A Kiwi Snapshot".
The 113 haunting black-and-white photographs from "Another Vietnam" are by North Vietnamese soldier-photographers who
risked their lives to capture their country's struggle. Many perished ¡X nine out of 10 died from bullets, bombs,
dysentery and malaria.
"Another Vietnam" is based on a book of the same name by author Tim Page, who returned to Vietnam to find his Vietcong
counterparts, 20 years after he first covered the war as a young photographer for United Press International.
The exhibition is co-produced by the National Geographic Museum at Explorers Hall, Washington, and the International
Center of Photography, New York.

Anzac Day
Sunday 25 April
Auckland War Memorial Museum marks Anzac Day, and the 90th Anniversary of the outbreak of World War One with a series of
services and commemorative events.
The Museum will open at midday, after the dawn parade and 11am service.
The Living Treasures Day line-up of special events from midday until 5pm include special commemorative film screenings,
a performance from the Auckland University Singers, children's activities and more.

The Auckland University Singers, directed by Associate Professor Karen Grylls, will perform music which includes In hora
ultima "at the ultimate hour" by Lassus, O nata lux by Tallis and works for double choir sung from the galleries
especially for this solemn occasion.

An experimental documentary exploring New Zealand Vietnam War Veterans shifting perspectives of the global phenomena of
war. Evocative amateur film footage shot in Vietnam and New Zealand is woven together with aural stories, an
experimental sound-scape and super-imposed text. These elements result in a film which involves the viewer in both an
historical and highly personal journey spanning 35 years.

On 30 April 1975, the longest war this century in Vietnam came to a close. This film connects the past and present in
Vietnam, illustrating the sacrifices and hardship its people endure through the "structural adjustments' imposed by
forces in the global economy.

New Zealand's participation in the Vietnam War is examined through rare historic footage and interviews with high-level
players from both the government and the peace movement. An excellent in-depth analysis of why New Zealand joined the
war, what troops we committed and why, and the pressure Holyoake was under to introduce conscription.

How do the Vietnamese of the "90s feel about the Vietnam War and its effect on their country? This film reveals how a
country shattered by heavy B-52 bombing, and with millions of acres destroyed by Agent Orange, is today a country of
hope. Screening as part of a special Living Treasures Day of events and activities to celebrate Vietnamese culture on
Sunday 16 May.

The BBC reveals the alliance between the CIA and Ho Chi Minh during the Japanese occupation of Vietnam. Ho did not turn
