Savour the Oscars moment, don’t quantify the success: NHNZ
New Zealanders should savour the Lord of the Rings’ success rather than try to quantify it in value terms, world leading documentary producer Natural History New Zealand (NHNZ) said today. NHNZ’s managing director Michael Stedman said the Lord of the Rings’ 11 Oscars in Hollywood last night was not just New Zealand history but world history.
``So it’s just extraordinary to listen to boring little people trying to quantify it in value tourism. It is sickening. I heard Mr Cullen talk of tax incentives.
``Let’s cherish moment and the unbelievable excellence of Peter Jackson’s efforts,’’ Mr Stedman said.
New Zealand was already established as a filming ground And Mr Stedman said he found the whole impact on tourism and other industries `tacky’.
``From my view Peter Jackson has filled enough pride to fill every New Zealand heart.’’ NHNZ has over 60 programmes currently in production covering nature, health, science, adventure, and people. The Dunedin-based company is wholly owned by Fox Television Studios.
