Answer: Outside In – an Environmental Land Art project
Land Art has a number of challenges, not only coming to terms with working in a public space with organic materials. But by it’s very nature the work is temporal, and is always affected by varying weather conditions, seasonal changes, tensions caused by working with the unfamiliar.
Land Art is strong in the UK and the US, but is still relatively unexplored in New Zealand as a mode of expression. Pablos Art Studio Inc is delighted with the opportunity to introduce the wider community to this genre of work.
Art Compass
Art compass is a studio / gallery space where adults with artistic potential who have an intellectual disability are enabled to explore the potential of art making there. They make art in the way they do best: their way !
In this exhibition Art Compass are showcasing two of their talented artists Noreen Keats and Yelena Barbalich
Noreen Keats Noreen Keats is a scriber, not only on paper but also with yarns in 3D. Her scribbling is not a stagnant stage of development as someone, who only takes her developmental impairment into consideration may conclude. Closer observation reveals a consistency in her markings that one would not find in the scribbling of a child.

It’s Noreen’s Script
Along side Noreen’s wool cocoons there will be a video playing showing how she creates.
Yelena Barbalich
Every line is connected Moves as a whole Lines smother other lines as layers are built Lines leave gaps Reveal interior spaces……….. You get the feeling That if you start pulling on any of her lines The whole thing might just dissappear
Yelena is a driven, self taught artist who uses lines and colours to express herself creatively. Her works is becoming increasing complex as she layers and juxtaposes patterns and colour. She is constantly developing and experimenting with her designs and art materials. Yelena never erases or reworks, she accepts her art as it flows out of her with complete confidence.
Though barley able to write her name, she ‘writes’ intricate patterns. We will have on a selection of her work on display
