Wellington Fringe Season: Friday Feb 27 - Fri March 5, 2004
One of the specialties of this year’s Fringe Festival, Terrain is a highly engaging and experimental boutique dance
event that features dancers Guy Ryan and Malia Johnston in a courageous and uniquely beautiful performance of movement,
theatre and sound. Designed to be independent of theatres, Terrain is instead set in and around a small, secret
self-contained installation, shifts between 3 intimate venues over the 8 night season, and each time plays to an
exclusive, close-up audience of ONLY 14.
Outlaw is a new Auckland-based production company that combines the talents of leading young choreographers Guy Ryan and
Malia Johnston. Both renowned for producing work of high quality, Malia is the current principle choreographer for the
New Zealand World of Wearable Arts Awards, whilst Guy has recently returned from Europe, where he danced with Random
Scream Company in Brussels and studied at the Impulstanz festival in Vienna on a prestigious Dance web scholarship.
“It’s a real pleasure to get a glimpse of the creative range of two very promising new choreographers. Malia Johnston
and Guy Ryan demonstrated in Weather Vain People and Fracture that such talent can reap rich rewards. Waikato Times
