MEDIA RELEASE
9 February 2004
If you go down to the park...
This year’s Meadow Fresh Teddy Bears’ Picnic, to be held on Sunday 22 February 2004, promises, as always, to be a free
and fun day out for the whole family.
The Auckland Domain will play host to around 40,000 people and bears.
Kids can expect all their old favourites. Ronald McDonald will be on the Pumpkin Patch Stage, and magician Alan Watson
on the Digitalmax Stage. There will be an opportunity for a meet and greet with television personality Suzy Cato. Fairy
Clare’s Fairy Grotto and Auckland City Libraries Storyland, both crowd pleasers last year, will also be open. The Teddy
Bears’ Hospital, hosted by Variety at Work, will provide free health checks. Break-dancing and rhythmic gymnastic
displays, as well as cultural performances will be on offer at the Auckland City Display Area. For a break, or a place
in the shade, visit the Oasis, which allows ready access to refreshments.
Patrons are reminded that there is no parking allowed on the sports fields, or on any grass area. To enjoy a hassle-free
journey, picnic-goers might want to consider the Teddy Express Bus, which will run free trips to and from the event all
day. The bus stop will be located on Broadway, Newmarket, opposite Route 66. Disabled parking will be available on
Domain Drive, off Park Road, for those with stickers. For other public transport information call Rideline, phone (09)
366 6400 or visit www.rideline.co.nz.
The event’s major sponsor is Meadow Fresh, stage sponsors are Pumpkin Patch and Digitalmax. Additional sponsors are
McDonalds, More FM, and Tip Top icecreams.
