A dark, eternal clown staggers the dance of death. Told through dance theatre, wild music, illusion and intertextual voiceover I Am Skelly is the memoirs of a dark clown, the jester of Hades, who delights in the illusion and humour of death. During the course of his confession he re-lives the intimate moments he has shared with great, triumphant and tragic figures of history as they stood face to face with Death, and prepared for the final dance. Performed by Rhys Latton (trained at Pantheatre in Paris) and directed by Jessica Sutherland, (currently studying for her Masters in Theatre Arts - Directing at Toi Whakaari/ New Zealand Drama School and Victoria University), the co-directors of AkeAke Theatre Company devise there creations through choreographic improvisation and image. "There's nothing in this life as important as entrances and exits," says co-creator and performer Rhys Latton, "Let's talk about the comedy, the tragedy, the end, the beginning, the dance- that is death."
