Ansell Big Gay Out 2004
Sunday, 8 February, 12 noon – 7pm
Coyle Park, Point Chevalier, Auckland
A slippery slide covered in personal lubricant, drag queens, dog trick competitions, great music and possibly even a Prime Minister – whatever tickles your fancy will be at this year’s Ansell Big Gay Out.
The Ansell Big Gay Out is New Zealand’s largest gay and lesbian gathering and is part of the Hero Festivities. It’s a vibrant and colourful family event for people of all ages and sexual orientations to celebrate our gay and lesbian communities, while enjoying a lively day of games, music and performances.
A highlight of the day’s proceedings will be the mass relationship commitment ceremony, a first for the event and a feature that is already drawing plenty of attention. The ceremony is designed to provide gay and lesbian couples an opportunity to publicly declare their commitment to each other in the absence of a law in New Zealand that recognises same sex marriages.
This year’s Ansell Big Gay Out also features the debut of well-known drag queen, Buckwheat, as “Miss Ansell”, the official Ansell Condom Queen. Miss Ansell will arrive in style, wearing a dress made of Ansell Condoms and will be one of the hosts of the Ansell Mainstage.
Adding to the entertainment, Ansell has created a 15-metre long lubricant slide, which will be covered in Ansell personal lubricant. This fun and quirky event is guaranteed to provide tonnes of slippery entertainment for spectators and those game enough to participate in some slippin’ and slidin’ fun.
Prime Minister Helen Clark is expected to be among the VIP guests in attendance on the day.
Ansell Big Gay Out is hosted by the New Zealand AIDS Foundation, a registered charitable trust that devotes its energies to preventing the transmission of HIV and maximising the health of people living with HIV/AIDS.
Part of the day is about appreciating the health and well being of the gay community and the importance of practising safe sex by using a condom.
Matthew Groskorth, Ansell Group Product Manager comments; “It’s fantastic to be supporting such an important community event for a second year. Ansell Big Gay Out is such an entertaining and exciting celebration, and it’s a thrill for us to assist in making it happen each year. It’s great to see such a diverse range of people joining together to have fun and highlight the importance of safe sex.”
Ansell condoms are becoming more and more popular in New Zealand as people discover how trustworthy they are, how well they perform when in use and how readily available they are in most supermarkets and pharmacies.
Ansell is committed to working proactively with the New Zealand AIDS Foundation to assist in the sexual health and well being of New Zealanders while still ensuring fun and enjoyment.
Whatever your age or sexual orientation, everyone is welcome to come along to the Ansell Big Gay Out for a day of fun. For a full schedule of the day’s events visit the official website at www.gayNZ.com
