Party hard but party responsibly
The AXA International Sevens organisers and Alcohol Advisory Council (ALAC) are urging Sevens fans to party hard but
party responsibly this weekend.
“Dressing up and partying is part of the Sevens appeal but we want fans to drink in moderation and enjoy themselves. In
the past we have had no problems and we expect it to be the same this year,” Tournament Director Steve Dunbar said.
Westpac Stadium security and police will be taking a firm approach with intoxicated people – if people are causing
trouble they will be removed from the Stadium.
Alcohol is not allowed to be brought into the stadium and although alcohol can be purchased, intoxicated people will not
be served.
ALAC has called for Sevens fans to moderate their drinking.
“This is a great occasion for Wellington and we want to see fans enjoying themselves without suffering harmful effects
from too much alcohol,” says ALAC acting chief executive Paula Snowden.
“Fans should pace themselves, drink water as well as alcohol and make sure they eat,” she says.
Ms Snowden also reminded adults that young people go to the sevens and adults need to be conscious of what sort of
message they are promoting to young people by their public drinking displays.”
