NORML presents
'J Day' Summer Sessions on Valentine's Day
Saturday 14 February 2004, High Noon to 4:20
Albert Park, Auckland. Free!
This summer, J Day is on Valentine's Day and NORML asks, what could be more romantic than a love-in at a smoke-up?
NORML's national Summer Smokin' Tour lands in Auckland with a special J Day called Summer Sessions at Albert Park in the city on Saturday 14 February 2004.
National Organisation for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) president Chris Fowlie said he was pleased to announce the return of the popular free event to "where it belongs, in the sun and under the trees of Albert Park".
The event had recently been held on the first Saturday in May to coincide with international anti-prohibition events in more than 200 cities around the world, but this year has been moved to February 14 in response to requests from members of the public, said Mr Fowlie.
"The fact this is also Valentine's Day was an opportunity to reinforce the message that we need drug peace, not a drug war. The War on Drugs is a destructive war on our own people," he said. "NORML hopes that this Valentine's Day the Government shows compassion and tolerance and declares a truce in its war on drug users."
The line-up for J Day Summer Sessions in Albert Park on Saturday 14 February includes:
a.. Cornerstone Roots
b.. Bassteppa Sound System
c.. GBH feat. DJ Devious
d.. Recommended Dosage
e.. AK Samba
.. DJs Big Matt & Slowdeck
g.. plus more to be announced!
Guest speakers include Green MP Nandor Tanczos, NORML president Chris Fowlie, Greg Soar of medical marijuana patient support group Green Cross, and more to be confirmed.
The Switched On Gardener Grower's Ironman, where contestants race an obstacle course with bags of fertiliser and buckets of water, is a regular crowd favourite. The day will also feature market stalls including sponsors The Hemp Store, Cannabis Culture magazine and dancepills.com
Responding to the growing community concern about P, this year's J Day will include a P amnesty bin and information stall promoting 0800-P HELPLINE.
The family-friendly day will also host a kiddies zone and tee pees. The public are encouraged to bring a picnic and some of their favourite flowers to share.
Note: Auckland City Council allows only one J Day per year to be held in Albert Park. International J Day will return as usual on Saturday 1 May 2004, at another venue still to be confirmed.
