NEW PEOPLE'S CHOICE SPORTS AWARDS 2003
Sports fans disgruntled with awards being judged by the media and ex-sports people can now have their say by voting online for their top sporting heroes and villains of 2003 in the Stuff Sports Awards 2003 on http://www.stuff.co.nz/ .
2003 has been a turbulent year for New Zealand sport with highs and lows including the America's Cup, the Netball World Cup, the Rowing World Championships and that Rugby World Cup. And for those die-hard or disillusioned fans out there the Stuff Sports Awards 2003 is the chance to finally have their say.
News and information site http://www.stuff.co.nz/ opened voting on January 21 and polls were immediately flooded with votes from passionate sport devotees keen to applaud their heroes or vent their frustrations.
Categories include Sportsman of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Breakthrough Athlete of the Year, Greatest Moment of the Year, Worst Moment of the Year and Villains of the Year.
Winners will be announced on February 12, immediately prior to the Halberg Awards, which should make for an interesting showdown - one which will pit the fan's choice against the 'industry' vote.
For a full list of nominees log on to the Stuff Sports Awards on http://www.stuff.co.nz/
