a concert of epic proportions at Happy
sunburnt orchestra:
the instant composition machine
abstraction: bad
passion: good
9pm, Thursday 29th January
at Happy
underground, cnr Tory and Vivian Streets
Throughout January, Happy has presented Sunburnt: the instant composition sessions. These sessions have gathered together musicians both local and international for nights of extemporaneous music.
Five shows over three weeks with a half a dozen or more different musicians each session have gone into the creation of the Sunburnt Orchestra: the Instant Composition Machine, Wellington’s most ambitious orchestra.
The evening of the Sunburnt Orchestra will bring together up to twenty musicians in three sets of music. The Sunburnt Sessions are an ambitious project, largely because of the spontaneous nature of the music, but so far have been musically outstanding successes.
The sessions have brought together groups and musicians who have either not played together in a long time or have not played together at all. The aim of the project is to create unique music and musical combinations, combining elements that may never have been combined before.
Nothing quite like the Sunburnt Orchestra has been attempted in New Zealand before.
