Experience the World in your own backyard!
Residents of North West Christchurch should prepare for a cultural extravaganza on Saturday 6 March at Ray Blank Park,
Maidstone Road. Staged from 12pm–4pm, Culture Galore is a local cultural festival that celebrates the colourful
diversity of our community.
The festival will feature performances from over 50 different cultural groups representing China, Spain, Egypt, Taiwan,
Russia, Zimbabwe, Somalia and Pacific Island, Irish and Korean featured on the two staged areas of the park.
This year the event will feature Maori arts & crafts including have-a-go flax weaving and demonstrations of wood carving; you may also want to try Bellydancing or
Flamenco dancing. These sessions will be complemented by children’s activities including a Bouncy Castle, Kite Flying
and Face Painting.
You can tempt your senses and delight your tastebuds with the huge array of exotic smells, and flavours to sample and
food to purchase throughout the day.
This is the fourth year this free event has been held with the support of the Riccarton Wigram and Fendalton Waimairi
Community Boards, and the event sponsor Plains FM96.9.
“Culture Galore is a natural extension of our activities in the community, and it’s a fabulous chance for the public to
learn more about the station and it’s huge cultural mix of broadcasters. It will be a fantastic event!” says Richard
Liddicoat, the station’s Marketing and Development Co-ordinator. Plains FM96.9 will be attending Culture Galore so
