Upper Hutt Imports Tons Of Rock
Upper Artist Mary Archibald has "imported " tons of rock to Upper Hutt for her 6th annual stone carving symposium at
Harcourt Park.The event has now grown into a 9 day season with 46 artists this year working outdoors creating their own
works in Oamaru limestone.
Ms Archibald says that the concert stage at Harcourt Park is an ideal focal point for artists and members of the public
who can come free of charge to view the sculptures around the park taking shape .Artists have been attracted from
Wanganui and Palmerston North as well as the Wellington Region.
On Anniversary Monday afternoon at 4.30 PM many of the creations will be available for sale at the carving auction.
Harcourt Park is becoming famous locally and internationally for its Lord of the Rings Film sites ,home of International
jousting,an outdoor concert stage regarded by many as the best in the region (and to host a major outdoor NZ$ Festival
concert on 13 March ) plus the visible earthquake faultline characteristics.

The 46 artists are outdoos and spread around the park with suncover where needed ,in a beautiful natural setting where
the public can watch and mix with the artists
They are also tutored by Mary Archibald and Bruce Winter .
Mary Archibald owns and operates Archibalds in Upper Hutt which is home to an art gallery, art school and art supply
specialist shop.
