Skycity Set To ‘Razzle Dazzle’ This New Year’s Eve
SKYCITY Auckland will once again host what is typically the nation’s biggest party under one roof where an estimated
30,000 revellers will welcome in the new year to free live entertainment around the clock.
This year the theme is “Razzle Dazzle” and throughout the four gaming areas, 14 bars and restaurants and main entrances
and walkways, there will be 1920s – 1940s style roving entertainers, an aerial - trapeze act, live bands and complex
wide theming to ensure there is something for everyone.
SKYCITY’s main gaming floor will be transformed to become the “Razzle Dazzle Club” presenting music and entertainment to
span the era from the roaring 1920s and 30s (Chicago style) through the big band sounds of the 1940s leading up to
present day hits. Compere Frankie Stevens will host non-stop live entertainment from 8:30pm and special surprise acts
from 11:30pm on the specially built stage.
SKYCITY’s New City Bar will be transformed back to the 40s to become “The Whoopie Bar” with renditions of the hottest
swing dance music and classic hits played by Ted Clarke and Stingray Martini from 7pm – 1am followed by a Party DJ from
1am – 4 am; the Atrium bar will look like it’s straight from the 1920s when it becomes “The Bootleggers Bar” featuring
party hits and music through the decades to the present day from 8pm with Taisha & Leon; Alto Bar and Casino will be transformed into “Molls and Gangsters Bar” featuring live entertainment from 6:30pm
and Kiwi Icon Ray Woolf in true gangster style from around 10:30 pm.
The main entrance to SKYCITY - the atrium area, will host a variety of 1920s to 1940s style entertainment. Guests will
be greeted at the door by themed roving entertainers such as Charleston flappers, interactive gangster artists, jugglers
and stilt walkers. The highlight will be special aerial act performances featuring a 10-minute trapeze and high wire
routine at 7:30pm, 9:00pm and 9:40pm.
SKYCITY’s new Play casino on level three will be focused on 1920s and 30s with gangsters and flappers; Fortuna buffet
restaurant will host a fun covers band with music ranging from the 40s to present day hits for easy listening dining
entertainment and Orbit revolving restaurant will have the sophisticated jazz sounds of the Mojave Trio playing
throughout the evening.
For the eighth consecutive year, SKYCITY’s colourful entertainment will culminate in the city’s largest fireworks
display erupting off the tip of Sky Tower at the stroke of midnight. Party-goers to the main gaming floor will receive
complimentary streamers, sequined head bands and hooters to help them welcome in the new year. There will be a special
New Year’s Eve countdown with special streamer drop from the roof throughout SKYCITY to ensure revellers welcome in the
new year in unison.
Other SKYCITY properties are also celebrating in similar glitzy style for New Year’s Eve 2003/2004. SKYCITY Hamilton is
offering Chicago themed celebrations throughout the entertainment complex and at SKYCITY Queenstown Casino, revellers
can enjoy a special set menu in Wild Thyme restaurant, free live entertainment from ‘Marty Astone’ (8pm – 10.30pm)
followed by the popular ‘Vague As Brothers’ (from 10.30pm – 1:30am) as well as party giveaways including hats and
streamers.
