Powerball Jackpots To $10 Million This Weekend
More than 100 Millionaires in two years
Powerball has jackpotted to a massive $10 million this weekend – meaning this country’s second biggest lottery win ever
is possible, says New Zealand Lotteries Commission Chief Executive Trevor Hall.
“Things seem to be coming in 10s at the moment,” he said. “We gave away 10 Holden Commodore SS V8s a couple of weeks ago
and recently we made our 100th Lotto Millionaire in just 2 years. In fact, we’re now up to 105 Millionaires since late
2001, 25 of those with Powerball – including 8 Multi-Millionaires.”
The largest prize to date with the country’s favourite jackpotting game - $19 million in September this year – was
shared by 14 lucky players who won $1.3 million each. The biggest prize for an individual is still the huge $11.4
million that went to a ticket bought in Hokitika in November 2002.
“There will be plenty more winners both sides of Christmas – and some of those big prizes will come in 10s. Watch this
space,” Trevor Hall said.
So what would you do if you won the fabulous $10 million this weekend:
- Buy 44 houses at the average national price?
- Take a pre-Christmas holiday to fantastic Fiji with 5 nights’ accommodation for yourself and at least 10,400 friends?
- Shout the entire populations of Wellington and Christchurch to “Return of the King”?
Trevor Hall says the interest alone on the $10 million would be enough to make the lucky winner rather well off.
“At the 5-year fixed interest rate of 6.3% the ASB is currently quoting, our winner would be collecting $1,726 a day or
$12,115 a week.”
