Christchurch Commercial Radio Audience Measurement Survey T2/2003
The second round of the Christchurch 2003 Commercial Radio Audience Measurement Surveys conducted by Research
International was released today at noon.
Department of Statistics Census 2001 data indicates that there are approximately 330,100 people aged over 10 years in
the Christchurch survey area used for the Radio Audience Measurement Survey. Of these 330,100 people, 87.2% of them
listen to a commercial radio station at some time during the week.
The survey, conducted over 6 weeks and sampling 1,697 people aged 10 years and over has found that 89.0 The Edge has the
most listeners each week, with 74,100 different people tuning in each week. 92MoreFM moves to second place with 71,000
different listeners each week, followed by Easy Listening Lite FM moving up to third placing with 68,500 listeners.
Newstalk ZB moves to fourth placing this round with 66,100 listeners and The Rock 97.7FM moves up to fifth placing with
49,400 listeners each week.
The commercial radio station with the highest market share in Christchurch continues to be Newstalk ZB with a 15.3%
share of the market, followed by 89.0 The Edge moving up to second placing with a 12.3% share of commercial radio
listening in Christchurch. Easy Listening Lite FM retains third place with a 10.8% share, fourth placing station is
92MoreFM with a 9.7% share. The Rock 93.7FM maintains fifth place with an 9.0% share of the market.
Breakfast results show Newstalk ZB retaining the number one position, with 20.4% of the commercial radio breakfast
market, followed by 92MoreFM with a 15.3% share. The Edge retains third placing this round with a 12.7% share of the
breakfast market. Easy Listening Lite FM holds onto fourth placing at breakfast with a 10.1% share, and at fifth
position The Rock 93.7FM with a 7.1% share of the commercial radio breakfast market.
The margin of error on these results is +/- 2.4%
