Two rising stars of Kiwi Stand-up grace the prime-time stage at BATS this December. Take a New Zealand born Indian and a Taranaki, corn-fed yokel and pair them up, the results are…interesting!
“This is Fusion Comedy, a mix of styles, kind of like a re-mix, I guess this is mo’ comedy” describes Hurley.
Mohanbhai says “this is the shizzel nizzel of stand up, we’ve got mo’ laughs fo’ sho’!”

Ben Hurley
Bred in the mighty Taranaki, since his first attempt at stand up a little over two years ago, Ben has scaled the comedy ladder, to become on of Wellington’s premiere stand-up comedians. After only his fourth gig, in 2001 Ben was let loose on our screens on Pulp Comedy, where he won Best New Face.
Since then Hurley has Headlined three tours of the north island, had a sell out Wellington season of his Laugh! Festival show, “Bigger than Ben Hurley”, and is quickly becoming one of the most sought after stand up acts around. In 2002 he was voted Best Stand Up Act at the Wellington Comedy awards and was nominated for “Most Inspiring Performer” at the New Zealand Comedy Guild Awards.
Ben’s "edgy but Home-grown" brand of Comedy is popular with audiences everywhere around the country whether it be in Wellington, Auckland or in his real home, the provinces.
Ben current TV Credits include Series 7 and 8 of Pulp Comedy, “Target” and “The Strip”. No TV? Then you can listen in to Ben 10 – 3pm on More FM every Saturday.

Tarun Mohanbhai
Born in 1972 to a grocer in a migrant Indian family who migrated to NZ in the 1940’s and brough up in the white suburban Pakuranga, Tarun admits he was a bit of a “funny bloke” in the playground, which eventually evolved into standup comedy.
Tarun first hit the comedy stage in 1996 and since then has produced, written and starred in 4 sellout TV2 International LAUGH! Festival shows including 2001’s “Tarun Mohanbhai: Is A Curry Muncher” and 2002’s acclaimed “D’aranged Marriage”
Tarun is a headliner at NZ’s top comedy venue The Classic Comedy and Bar, and is a highly sort after performer on NZ’s Comedy Touring Circuit.
Having performed internationally at Vancouver’s Yaks Yaks, Laff Lines, Urban Wells and London’s Chalk Farm and Comedy Café, Tarun is about to hit the international stage again with bookings this year at London’s Mirth Control and Jongleurs.
His current TV credits included featured performances on the top rating TV2 Big Comedy Gala, PULP Comedy (2 series), 2002’s TV2 Billy T’s Showcase and he also co-wrote and stared in his own RAD currently in high rotate on TV4. He is soon to be seen in NZ’s award winning drama Mercy Peak.
