Marilyn Duckworth awarded 2004 Foxton Fellowship
The NZ Society of Authors announced today that Marilyn Duckworth is the recipient of the 2004 Foxton Fellowship. The fellowship, a one month stay at Foxton Beach with a $5000 stipend, is sponsored by Peter and Diane Beatson of Palmerston North whose interest in supporting New Zealand writing led them to set up the fellowship in 2001.
Peter Beatson says, “Marilyn Duckworth has been a part of the New Zealand literary scene for the best part of 50 years. Her work is outstanding”.
The selection panel unanimously endorsed Marilyn Duckworth’s appointment.
This year there was an impressive line-up of 17 applications from emerging writers to well established ones.
“Each year the number and quality of applications increases showing that the fellowship is highly regarded and that there is a need for short-term residencies,” says NZSA executive director, Liz Allen.
