Dinosaur Exhibition Outstanding Success
The biggest dinosaur exhibition ever seen in the southern hemisphere has outstripped all previous Otago Museum visitor
numbers by attracting more than 50,000 people, making Chinese Dinosaurs a success of Tyrannosaurus proportions!
On closing, 50,196 visitors had viewed the exhibition of real dinosaur skeletons from the Beijing Natural History Museum
and the Zigong Dinosaur Museum. Adults and children alike packed the Museum to view and learn about dinosaurs and
explore the other galleries.
"It was tremendous to be able to provide our community with the very rare opportunity to see such a wonderful
exhibition", says Museum Director, Shimrath Paul. "To attract such a large audience, and exceed expectations, has been
excellent."
Chinese Dinosaurs was developed by the Australian Museum in association with the Beijing Natural History Museum and the
Zigong Dinosaur Museum. The exhibition was made possible with the support of the Community Trust of Otago and Aurora and
it was indemnified by the New Zealand Government.
Chinese Dinosaurs was in the Special Exhibitions Gallery from 30 August until 5 November 2003.
