Waikato University Glassblower Wins Australiasian Award
Waikato University’s Steven Newcombe knows all about blowing up difficult structures.
He’s just retained his title as the producer of the best example of scientific glassblowing in Australasia.
His win came at the 6th Australasian Scientific Glassblowing Symposium in Rotorua.
Scientific glassblowing involves making often intricate glassware for scientific experiments.
Steven won two awards at the last symposium in Sydney in 2001: best example of scientific glassblowing and first equal for best artistic glassblowing.
This year he won best example of scientific glassblowing for an updated version of a J. C. Schlenk Line, used in teaching chemistry labs. He also won best technical paper and best technical presentation.
