Search For Young Boarders & Bikers
If you’d like to be hot shot at ollies, kick flips, tail whips and seat grabs, then Vodafone is extremely keen to hear
It is looking for five skateboarders and five BMX riders from around the country.
From the top 10, the public will choose one winner from each discipline who will spend a week in Auckland learning
tricks of the trade from the best skaters and riders in the land.
The competition, called Extreme Close Up, is being launched to celebrate Vodafone’s sponsorship of New Zealand extreme
sports, including national skateboarding supremo Chey Ataria, BMX stars Team Haro and the Vodafone X-Air which is held
in Hamilton each February.
“We know there are some amazingly talented kids out there who can perform incredible feats on their boards and bikes,”
said Vodafone spokesperson Lynley Kirk-Smith.
“This is their chance to show what they can really do and demonstrate their skills to the nation.”
Extreme Close Up is open to anyone over 12 year of age - all entrants have to do is send in a video of themselves doing
their best BMX or skate trick.
The top five from each sport will be shown on Vodafone XSTV with viewers asked to txt vote for their favourites.
The winning BMXer and skater will then spend a week in Auckland with riders from Team Haro and Chey Ataria, picking up
tips to further improve their skills.
In addition, each winner will receive a backstage "competitors" pass to X-Air in February 2004, with everyone who enters
going in the draw to win one of eight Vodafone live! handsets.
Extreme Close Up opens on 27 October and entrants have until 28 November to send their videos to Extreme Close Up
Competition, Freepost Vodafone, Private Bag 92161, Auckland.
