Friday Arvo Surf Update
We are in for a good sized lift in swell on the West Coast tomorrow and Sunday. We could well be calling it Big Sunday. Next week for the same south swell to push up the East Coast. It is another big game this weekend for the Warriors. Only two games to go guys...We are all behind you.

Regional Report
What's Hot
WEATHER SITUATION:
This has got to be the hardest job today, describing in words what the weather map looks like. But here goes. We have a low pushing down onto us from the north. There is a weak looking Low off to the northeast of the North Island. We have a cluster of five small lows off the East Coast of the south island with a couple of associated fronts. We have another small low to the southwest of the West Coast. A southwest to west airflow is moving towards us. We have a high on top of the Southern parts of Australia that will move into the southerly airflow and change its direction by Sunday.
REGIONAL REPORT:
North Island
Northland; Auckland; Coromandel; Waikato; B.O.P:
West Coast: It is not a good day to be out on the West Coast. Strong onshores this afternoon. A real messy sea state with a west to southwest swell of 4-6 feet, it is raining and bleak. It is looking like strong onshores all weekend with just the smallest of respites on Sunday morning, when we will get a northerly for a few hours and then back to the northwester. Now, tomorrow the swell will really kick in and should be over 8 feet. Sunday we could well be calling big Sunday. HT 1550. Camera Link: http://surf.gravitymail.com/cp/43923C9I524F07N44YJN4J6V/
East Coast: Fresh northwest winds continue this afternoon with the smallest of northwest wind swells, unless you are in the far Eastern B.O.P, which has 1-1.65 feet of northwest wind swell. We are expecting a bit more in this neck of woods. Now tomorrow we will see a small lift in swell from the northeast 1-1.5 feet. This little lift will drop away as quickly as it came up by Sunday. This afternoon we would have a foot at the most. LT 1250. Mt Maunganui Cam: http://surf.gravitymail.com/cp/43924C9I524F07N44YJN4J6V/
Gisborne; Wairarapa:
The little east swell that has been lurking around Gisborne is easing away today with the northwest offshore eating away at it. West to northwest winds tomorrow with a change to the southwest Sunday morning. Then back to the northwest in the afternoon. A new small east swell will arrive Saturday arvo and hang around on Sunday and then disappear. LT 1130. Camera Link: http://surf.gravitymail.com/cp/43925C9I524F07N44YJN4J6V/
Taranaki:
The onshores continue today with fresh to strong west to northwesterlies. Same thing tomorrow, west to southwest swell on the rise tomorrow as well. Expecting 6 foot in town. Bigger down the coast. Saturday arvo there should be masses of swell around. Now here is the good news we could well have an east to northeast wind first thing Sunday morning and then back to the northwest in the afternoon. Now don't say we don't tell you anything. LT 1540. Wellington:
West Coast; We have swell today again with 3-4 feet and we are expecting a bit more. Wouldn't be surprised tomorrow to see a combination southwest groundswell wrapping and a northwest wind swell. Northwest onshores tomorrow and then a short burst of north to northeast winds Sunday morning and then back to the dreaded northwester. LT 1520.
South Coast; Strong offshore northwest winds are continuing and will do the same tomorrow. By Sunday with any luck we should have a wind change. Sunday morning should start off with a southeasterly that swings northeast and then back to the northwest. Southeast swell of about a foot on Sunday. You will have to wait till next week for a south swell. But will turn up. LT 1030. Camera link: http://surf.gravitymail.com/cp/43927C9I524F07N44YJN4J6V/
South Island
West Coast:
Rising swells, yes swells, a northwest swell rising with the wind and southwest swell from the low that just went underneath the South Island. Saturday is looking like a big swell day. Strong west to northwest winds tending southwest and then wait for it a small wind of opportunity as the wind swings to the easterly quarter first Sunday morning. HT 1645. Camera link: http://surf.gravitymail.com/cp/43928C9I524F07N44YJN4J6V/
Kaikoura; Canterbury:
Northwest wind swell going past us and heading to Christchurch. A small southeast to east swell of a foot at the most. Northwest offshores. Gusty as today. We are looking at an east to southeast wind for a while on Sunday. LT 1130.
Christchurch: We are one of the few places around with a wave today. We have a fresh northwesterly wind coming down the coast and an east to northeast swell of 1.5-2 feet. Yes there are guys surfing today. There are a couple out at Taylors and few more by the Pier. Northwest today tending westerly tomorrow and a change to the southeast to east by Sunday. The combination wind and east ground swell will ease and by Sunday we should start to see a southeast swell develop. Camera Link: http://surf.gravitymail.com/cp/43929C9I524F07N44YJN4J6V/
Dunedin; Southland:
We have a light offshore this afternoon and a clean 2-3 feet of surf. Northwest winds are forecast to go to the southwest by Saturday afternoon. East to southeast winds on Sunday and the start of a new south swell that will tend southeast. HT 1510. Camera link: http://surf.gravitymail.com/cp/43930C9I524F07N44YJN4J6V/
