EVERY DOLLAR RAISED FROM ARTWORKS 2003 TO GO TO CHARITY
New Zealand artists and charities have benefited to the tune of almost a quarter of a million dollars as a result of
Artworks 2003 Charity art exhibition and sale held in Auckland at the end of August.
The three day event, now in its second year, was organized by the Rotary club of Ellerslie Sunrise, who have once again
ensured that the total monies raised from the event have been awarded to the beneficiaries.
$240,000 was split between five charities including Variety - the Children's Charity, the Gifted Children's Programme,
the Spirit of Adventure Trust, the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research and the Liggins Institute. A further $185,000
went to the artists who exhibited and sold paintings at the event. Corporate sponsors covered the total cost of the
event which is the largest of its kind in Australasia.
Major sponsor Mazda's MD and Artworks spokesperson Peter Aitken stresses that it was always the goal of the organizers
to be able to gift the total amount raised during the event to the charities and the artists themselves.
"Artworks is a celebration of the vision and creativity of established and emerging New Zealand artists as well as the
opportunity to contribute to the future of young New Zealanders through the chosen charities," says Mr Aitken. "We are
therefore pleased to be able to invest in our country's future by handing over every dollar raised to these charities
and the artists themselves."
