School holiday events all ‘rapped up’
No need to dream up ideas of things for your children to do these school holidays - Christchurch City Libraries has got it all ‘rapped up’.
The Christchurch City Libraries school holiday programme that will run over the next two weeks will include a rap competition and a quintet performance.
Budding musicians aged 5 – 12 have the perfect opportunity to show off their skills in the ‘Rap & get wrapped!’ competition. Children can write their own rap, or enter a verse from their favourite rap song, and go in the draw to win a t-shirt to wrap themselves up in. The competition can be entered on-line at http://library.christchurch.org.nz/OnLineCompetition.asp or at any of the Christchurch City Libraries.
The last Saturday of the holidays (4 October) will be the children’s ‘big show day’ at New Brighten Library. “In the afternoon we will be creating finger shadows and puppets for a story telling session, then we will finish with a Circus Parade,” says New Brighton community librarian Kim Taunga.
This Saturday, your children can enjoy the New Zealand Army Band Children’s Quintet performing at Linwood Library (next to Eastgate Shopping Centre – so you can take some time out and go shopping while the kids are entertained).
The other libraries holiday programmes can be seen on the Christchurch City Libraries website http://library.christchurch.org.nz, or call them on 941 7923.
