MAMMA MIA! To Play in The Civic
THE EDGE® has secured the hit musical MAMMA MIA! for a season at The Civic from March 2004.
The Civic will be the only New Zealand venue in which the production will be staged.
“We are thrilled that MAMMA MIA! will be coming to The Civic,” says THE EDGE® chief executive Greg Innes.
“This is the biggest musical to come to Auckland since Les Miserables in 1998. MAMMA MIA! features a touring company of 60 and a local staff of a further 40 people.”
THE EDGE® has been involved in the presentation of numerous large musicals at The Civic and the Aotea Centre including Phantom of the Opera and two seasons of Les Miserables.
“We expect about 40 per cent of the audience for MAMMA MIA! will come from outside Auckland resulting in significant economic benefits to central Auckland businesses, especially hotels, restaurants and other tourism related retailers,” Mr Innes says.
MAMMA MIA! has been a huge hit all over the world. Set in the present-day on a small mythical Greek island, the show interweaves 22 ABBA songs into a tale of a mother and her soon-to-be-wed daughter. Songs include “Mamma Mia”,"Money, Money, Money", and "Dancing Queen".
Tickets for MAMMA MIA! go on sale for group bookings tomorrow and on general public sale on 17 November. Details are available from Ticketek phone (09) 307-5000.
