SUCCESS KEEPS ROLLING IN FOR TV PRODUCERS
Press Release
"A slick take on popular culture, filmed music-video style," Sarah Stuart, Sunday Star-Times.
THIS year just keeps getting better for the producers of the award-winning magazine arts television show The Living Room.
Fresh from winning two major television awards, Wellington production company Sticky Pictures has just got the green light from TV3 and New Zealand on Air to produce a second series of The Living Room.
"It's been a huge year for Sticky Pictures," says Producer Mark Albiston who formed the small company with partner Amelia three years ago. "We were stoked to win the awards and then to have the second series confirmed . . . Huge thanks must go to New Zealand On Air and TV3 for continuing to support the show."
The Living Room, a weekly 30-minute magazine style television show aimed at celebrating emerging New Zealand creative talent, received rave reviews when it aired for the first time on TV3 last year.
Critics described the innovative series as "cool", "hip" and a "slick take on popular culture." The first series featured a range of musicians, DJs. skateboarders, artists, designers and filmmakers from Wellington dub band The Black Seeds to London-based Maori tattooist Te Rangitu.
The series' success was validated at the New Zealand Television Awards recently when it won two major awards. Mark Albiston won Best Director for Factual/Entertainment award while The Living Room also picked up the award for Best Lifestyle series.
Earlier this year, The Living Room also won Best Television Magazine/Lifestyle programme in the Qantas Media Awards 2003.
Not bad innings for a small production company that has predominantly produced sports shows. The Living Room was Albiston's first foray into television outside of sports and the punt certainly paid off.
"We believe The Living Room has created an awareness and pride in the diversity of artistic and musical talent in New Zealand," says Albiston. "We are looking forward to producing a second series that will be just as dynamic, fresh and innovative as the first."
Sticky Pictures not only produces award-winning arts series. The company has also won awards for its sports producing, including Best Television Sports Programme at the recent Qantas Media Awards.
Sticky pictures has now successfully delivered four television series for broadcast in New Zealand and sold a number of series and features overseas.
Sticky Pictures also recently completed its first short film (working title Limp) written and produced for Toi Whakaari, the New Zealand School of Drama using Toi Whakaari students as the actors. The film, a funeral road trip set in the Wairarapa, will be released later this year.
