Espresso Season: Tuesday 9 - Saturday 13 September Time: 6.30pm Tickets: $14/$10
Java Co-operative brings you a double shot of dance for caffeine lovers choreographed by Sacha Copland to tickle the senses in a full-bodied blend of dance and hospitality. The coziness of a cafe, the agility of dancers and the pallet of a chef culminate in a fast-paced and funky contemporary dance show, set in a café/bar.
Three svelte waitresses, Rosanne Christie, Sacha Copland and Melanie Golding (recent graduates from the New Zealand School of Dance) dance their way through the rigours of efficiency, automation and presentation. The arrival of customers, including Toi Whakaari:NZ Drama School graduates Angela Green and Heather O'Carrol provoke a precariously balanced status game. Smiles belie the tension between those who serve and those who have everything handed to them on a silver platter.
Chef, Dale Rangihaeata and jazz singer, Natalie McCormack complete the cast with their sizzling songs and spices as the night heats up into bar mode. Jazz seeps through the soundtrack alongside the original music of New Zealand composer Alexis Copland.
Skeletal Precipice Season: Wednesday 10 - Saturday 13 September Time: 8.30pm Tickets: $15/$10
Auckland dance and performance artists Artillery (Kerryn McMurdo) and Te Toki Haruru (Charles Koroneho) present two solos.
McMurdos¹ Skeletal Precipice is a metaphor for the precipice between life and death, and a lamentation that explores cultural identity and dislocation as an adoptee in New Zealand, with references to a Salvation Army Christian up-bringing and Italian/Sardinian ancestry. Skeletal Precipice has been performed at Fringe NZ 2003 and the Ignite Festival 2003.
The inter-cultural exorcist Koroneho performs Cultistic Misfit - an anti global tour with the ŒPied Piper¹ of shamanistic advertisings and the pre packaged behavior of the indigenous. The Misfit is our iconic consumer; image is the temple and New Zealand ŠŠ the port of departure. Cultistic Misfit performance material has been developed with La Pocha Nostra performance company, directed by Mexican performance-artist Guillermo Gomez-Pena.
