Singapore Crime Thriller Just Published
New Zealand writer Bob Nimmo’s long-awaited new book Caught in a Singapore Sling has just been released to retail
bookstores nation-wide.
Entertaining, witty, panoramic and disturbingly authentic, Caught in a Singapore Sling draws the reader into the
colourful, dramatic, culturally challenging worlds of modern Singapore and Malaysia in a story that offers a fascinating
insight into a side of Asia the tourist never sees.
This is a semi-autobiographical tale, as the author has drawn extensively on his professional work experiences and life
in Singapore to write the book.
Bob Nimmo has a colourful past, including work at Spandau Prison in Berlin, where the Nazi fugitive Rudolph Hess was
incarcerated for many years, visits to PLO training camps in North Africa, run-ins with the secret police of the former
East Germany, and friendships with CIA operatives.
Bob Nimmo has also written eight musical comedies and directed a number of award-winning plays.
An experienced and highly regarded teacher, Bob worked for the Singapore Education Service for 14 years, and through his
theatre production company he brought a Singaporean cast and crew to New Zealand to perform in the World Youth Festival
1990.
During his time in Singapore, Bob travelled through Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia many times, gaining a deep insight
into the cultural problems and paradoxes of those Asian societies. Many of these feature prominently in Caught in a
Singapore Sling, including the well-known but often misunderstood occurrence of child prostitution.
The author will be touring the South Island during September/October as part of an extensive promotional programme for
the book, and is available for media interviews. He is also currently completing work for two publishing companies in
Singapore.
