Sctoom - Behind the Boys
Auckland/Gulf Harbour – September 2, 2003 Rugby is intrinsically enmeshed into the Kiwi psyche. Across the nation, young
and old, male and female - all are passionate about the sport – it transcends barriers.
And Sctoom Incorporated (NZ) Ltd. is no different.
Kiwis cried with joy when the All Blacks triumphed over the Aussies at the Bledisloe Cup recently, Adidas rubbed their
hands with dollar signs in their eyes. Rugby may be our national pride; but nowadays it’s also big business.
But what about the youth - the next generation of stars? Most junior teams struggle to raise funds, just to have the
satisfaction of playing the sport they love.
CEO of Sctoom Incorporated, David Mack has decided that’s not good enough. Sctoom Inc. has sponsored the Northland
Under-16s squad’s fund shortfall for this season. Now the team can concentrate on simply playing the game.
“It’s about investing in the sport’s future, our community and our youth,” Mr Mack said. “If it wasn’t for our kids’
passion for the game – our future All Blacks would be ‘All Gone’.”
Mr Mack said he wanted to show the same commitment to the team’s management (who are voluntary) as they do to the
players. “The commitment of those who coach and manage the Northland Under-16s is remarkable,” he said. “They’re not in
it for the money – they’re in it, because of their love for the sport and the boys.”
When questioned why the donation was given directly to the Northland Under-16s team and, not through the NRFU, Mr Mack
replied: “I want the boys to go out there and kick some ass, without their mum and dad worrying and getting a second job
to let it happen.”
“We need to concentrate on the youth – our future stars – and not just the stars of today. These kids are the ones who
will take their place.”
Manager of Northland Under-16s, Alan Jolly, thanked Mr Mack for his generous donation and said his team was set to
tackle this season with gusto. “Thanks to Sctoom, the boys are excited that now it’s all about just playing the game,”
he said.
