It’s Play Time For Student Designers
DuPont Textiles & Interiors is pleased to announce the 23rd annual Lycra® HAS IT™ Student Fashion Design Awards in association with
Charles Parsons. The Award program is open to second, third and final year students and recognises outstanding and
innovative design of garments using fabrics containing DuPont™ Lycra®.
2002 Lycra® Student Fashion Design Award Supreme winner: Michelle Hurliman, Massey University
The theme for this year’s program is “Play Planet: It’s all about fun yet appearance is to be taken seriously.” Students
may submit designs in one or more of six categories – swimwear, intimate apparel, street wear, active wear, men’s wear
and avante garde.
Garments will be judged on originality, creativity, construction and quality of presentation. The most outstanding
design in each of the six categories will be awarded NZ$1,000 prize money and the overall supreme winner will feature in
a nationwide publicity program.
All garments must feature fabric made with Lycra® - world renowned for bringing high quality, comfort and freedom of
movement to fabrics.
DuPont Textiles & Interiors Awards Program Co-ordinator, Donna Hobman is thrilled to see the program enter its 23rd year.
“We are delighted to provide students with a platform from which to generate awareness for their work and to showcase
their talents to the industry,” said Hobman.
All entries must be received by 12 September 2003 and will be judged by a distinguished panel of industry judges
including World designer Francis Hooper, television presenter Kate Hawkesby and Viva fashion editor Fiona Hawtin.
Winners will be announced at a gala ceremony on Tuesday 30 September at the Hilton Hotel, Auckland.
