Bartley Nees Gallery celebrates its 10th anniversary

Wellington's Bartley Nees Gallery is celebrating its 10th anniversary with two exhibitions opening next Tuesday.
The exhibition 'hidden square series' presents recent work by artist Leon van den Eijkel. Colourful and bold, these are
classic geometric abstract paintings with crisp lines and flat blocks of colour. It is fitting to have an exhibition of
Leon¹s work at this time, as he was the first artist to exhibit with the gallery in 1993. His interest in the abstract
qualities of form, colour and space are fuelled by a passionate preoccupation with the Dutch artist Piet Mondrian.
There will also be a group show of work by many of the gallery's represented artists. Titled "it's the little things..."
this exhibition features small-scale photographs, sculptures, and paintings including John Pule's smallest ever canvas.
Gallery directors Tim Nees and Alison Bartley believe that "ten years is a significant milestone in the life of an art
gallery. We wished to mark it by emphasising our long-term commitment to the artists we work with, many of whom have
been with us since the beginning. We also wanted to showcase the breadth and quality of the art we represent".
