Teenage Art Star in the making
At only 18 years of age, Rozi Demants’ paintings are in great demand. The Gallery has been taking enquiries from interested art buyers around the globe, and there is no doubt the upcoming July show will be an instant sellout.
The dreamlike paintings are a continuation of a figurative theme the artist developed a few years ago while still at High School. Alluring, elongated females in fishnet stockings and suspenders lounge in opulent surroundings attended by exotic felines, crows and butterflies. Others teeter on tiptoes dancing in trios to their own private ballet. Atmospheric backgrounds, often dimly lit add to the sense of theater and surrealism.
Gallery Director Warwick Henderson says, “Rozi is an extremely talented young lady. It is exciting to be a part of her first major art exhibition at an Auckland Gallery. Rozis art appears to come from a mature hand and mind, and although Rozi is only beginning her journey into the often enigmatic art world, her work will endure – and that is the goal great artists must achieve”.
Rozi has wonderfully supportive parents and they have helped guide her through the often-overwhelming attention showered upon her in the last six months. Not only has there been great media interest, but art buyers throughout New Zealand and some overseas have been trying to track her down to secure a painting. Rozi and her parents secured the services of a leading Auckland Art Gallery to handle the many enquiries.
The show runs from Tuesday July 22 until Friday August 1, 2003, at Warwick Henderson Gallery, Parnell, Auckland. There will be an opening for the exhibition on Tuesday 22 at 5.30pm.
