NZL Yngling Crew's Vie For Olympic Selection
Kieler Woche (Kiel Week)
Kiel, Germany
25 - 29 June (Olympic Classes)
The top placing NZL Yngling crew at the prestigious Kiel Week regatta will have even more reason to celebrate - being
one step closer to Olympic selection. New Zealand's two top ranked Yngling crew's skippered by Alesha Thorpe and Sharon
Ferris will be competing at the prestigious regatta in Germany which marks the first of a three regatta selection series
for the Yngling class. The other two regattas in the series are the Yngling World Championships held in Spain, in
September 2003 and the Yngling World Championships in Australia in February 2004.
Competition has been close between these two Yngling fleet's in the past at the Semaine Olympique Francaise last month
Alesha Thorpe, Karen Lambert and Michelle Vinsen finished in 15th place with Sharon Ferris, Joanna White and Martha
Parker in 16th. This gap widened marginally at the Scandinavian Race Week in Denmark last week with Thorpe just missing
out on a medal in 4th place and Ferris and crew in 9th place.
Former Team New Zealand sailor and 49er Olympian Dan Slater has recently made the transition back to the Laser class, he
placed 11th at the Scandinavian Race Week behind fellow NZL Laser sailor Rod Dawson in 3rd.
