Dunedin - Selection: Spring Summer Fashion Looms

Published: Mon 23 Jun 2003 05:44 PM
Spring is a time to celebrate the emergence of new growth out of the foundations established by the past. To prepare for the coming of spring, Dunedin is going to have a new fashion experience, Selection.
Selection: Spring/Summer Fashion Stage Show 2003 will be held on August 7th.
Inspired by the success of the Schwarzkopf Professional Summer Fashion Stage Show 2002, Selection is focusing on both the established and emerging designers of Dunedin while targeting the youth culture of this traditional University City.
Designers who will be showing us a glimpse of the future face of fashion, evolving forwards but always linking us to our past, are:
Dot Com, Voosha, Andrew Mattingly, Ivy, Akimbo, Soma, Nsect, Bee, Motel X, Joe 90, The Dunedin Fashion Incubator designers, Julie Davies, Chiquita, Warp and the Otago Polytechnic Fashion Design School, with Visions, a haute couture-type collection showcasing more hip up & coming Dunedin designers.
Not just a fashion show, Selection will infuse fashion with music and theatre, choreographed by Lisa Wilkinson of the Rasa School of Dance, and feature internationally renowned, Auckland DJ Soane.
The entire Selection experience is being held in the middle of the post-industrial landscape of the Dunedin wharves. The venue, Wrightson's Wool Store on Parry St symbolises the historic industrial/textile roots of fashion and design in Dunedin. Out of this has grown the more established labels, Dot Com, Ivy and Akimbo who in turn inspire the growth of the new and emerging designers, all drawing on this symbiosis of the organic and technological that is the Dunedin fashion environment.
In keeping with Selection's commitment to "Celebrating Youth and Diversity," all profits from the night will be donated to Youthline Otago and Pride Dunedin Youth.
"We want Selection to be a show that has relevance to the young of Dunedin, especially those who have travelled from all the corners of New Zealand and the globe to study here. We want them to connect with the fashion and design coming out of Dunedin, and to take some of that connection with them when they go out to the rest of the world."
Said Mr. Konrad Kahuroa, Selection Show Director.
Selection: Spring/Summer Fashion Stage Show 2003 will be held at Wrightson's Wool Store, Parry St., Dunedin Thursday 7th August starting at 8.15pm. Tickets for the show are $25, $15 student (Includes entry to the Dance Party). Tickets go on sale July 1st and are exclusively available from Belle bird Boutique (in The Edinburgh Way, Dunedin).
