The second concert in the Auckland Philharmonia’s 2003 Telecom Pops series features Monica Mancini, daughter of famed film composer Henry Mancini.
Possessing a warm, expressive voice and a remarkable gift for interpreting lyrics, Monica has carved out an impressive career of her own as a concert performer, appearing with major symphonies worldwide. She has also performed on countless film scores and recordings with everyone from Placido Domingo to Michael Jackson.
Her own albums include the simply titled “Monica Mancini”, on which she pays tribute to her father’s musical legacy, and “The Dreams of Johnny Mercer” featuring her interpretation of a dozen songs with lyrics by the immortal Mercer.
In addition to her recording career and a hectic touring schedule, both in the US and abroad, Monica works with her sister Felice and mother Ginny to raise funds and awareness for The Henry Mancini Institute and its music education programmes. Each year 85 music students from around the world are selected to study and perform with musical masters such as Quincy Jones and John Williams, in a four week programme that culminates with a concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
In concert with the Auckland Philharmonia, Monica will present songs and music by Johnny Mercer and her legendary father. Saturday 26 July – 8pm, Aotea Centre Adult tickets from $32. Phone the Ticketek Orchestra Hotline on 307 5139.
Telecom Pops is sponsored by Telecom New Zealand with support from MORE FM.
