Free Insights Into Theatre For Students
Young And Hungry Ambassadors Programme gives Wellington secondary students insight into professional theatre – for free!
This Thursday 5th June, Young and Hungry launches its exciting new “Young and Hungry Ambassadors Programme”, an audience
development initiative for senior secondary school students around Wellington.
Drama teachers from Wellington high schools were asked to nominate one student from their school to become a Young and
Hungry Ambassador. Throughout the year, these Ambassadors will attend Wellington professional theatre productions for
free, take part in discussions and forums with cast and crew, get to see the inner workings of a theatre production, and
hang out with other young people who love theatre too.
“The Young and Hungry Ambassadors Programme is based on an Auckland Theatre Company initiative,” says Young and Hungry
Producer Laura Staples. “Their premise was that in the digital entertainment age, theatre can provide memorable dramatic
encounters that are real, live and exciting, and that by investing in arts education, we are helping these teenagers
become the young theatre makers and audiences of the future.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for senior Wellington students who are passionate about theatre and want to get a
closer look at how it’s done. We hope that our Ambassadors will gain valuable insights and inspiration from this
programme that they can share with their peers, friends and families.
“Young and Hungry are immensely grateful to Wellington’s theatres and secondary schools for their enthusiastic
participation in this initiative, which we’re sure will result in positive and long-lasting relationships.”
