Treble Cone, Mt Ruapehu share top world ski resort honours
Wanaka’s Treble Cone and Mt Ruapehu are listed among the world’s best ski resorts in a book just released.
The Top Ski Resorts of the World book singles out Ruapehu and Treble Cone as the best in New Zealand out of 35 best ski fields in the world.
Aoraki / Mt Cook is named as one of the four best heliskiing venues in the world.
The book, released by New Holland Publishers, says the honours come out even between Treble Cone and Ruapehu, when the scenery factor is thrown in.
``In terms of weather, Treble Cone probably wins hands down – Whakapapa is not known for its blue sky days.
Of Aoraki/Mt cook, the book says ``it is a truly awe-inspiring mountain. The Southern Alps may not quite be in the same league as the Himalayas, but they are dramatic nonetheless.’’
